DESCRIPTION
-----------

This is a tool to translate the arcade game Valkyrie no Densetsu into english.
It works on Mame and on a real PCB.

WARNING
-------

English recquires in general more charcaters than japanese to say something. That's why I had sometimes to arrange/ignore some texts. I apologise for that but you'll have about 90% of the original meaining, wich is enough in my opinion to enjoy the game. If you really want the full translations you'll have to search for the Namco Museum vol 5 on PlayStation, but the game HUD is different and there are loadings...

HOW IT WORKS
------------

The script will modify the 2 main programm eprom's code. It won't just modify the original japanese texts, it will write the new english texts into free spaces in the code to have the maximum number of charcaters for each bubble. Then it will update the address table containing all the texts address with the new ones.
Thanksfully the game doesn't check the roms code so the game will boot normaly.

HOW TO USE IT
-------------

First you have to install Python on your computer. Then you'll need the 2 main programm's file, named as wd1mpr0.bin and wd1mpr1.bin. Put the script in the same folder, open a command pannel, go into the folder and type the full name of the script (valkyrie_to_english.py). Press enter and it will do all the work. Normally you should have a "SUCCESS" message at the end, otherwise an error message will tell you what went wrong.

HOW TO USE IT ON A PCB
----------------------

Once the script executed, you'll have to burn the modified code into new eproms. I recommend eproms because you can erase them and reburn them if you want to do a modification on the translations. The needed eproms are 27C010 or 27C1001, they are the same. Put them into an eprom burner and send the new code into them. Replace the eproms on the PCB and it's done.

HOW TO MODIFY TRANSLATIONS
--------------------------

I did my best to translate the texts but you can change it if you want. Open the script with a developer coding tool and you'll see all the translations into arrays at the beginning. You can change them but they have to respect the parameters for each type of text (max number of lines, characters per line and total max characters). They are written in commentary, and the script verify if you don't do any overflow.
Please change only the translations, otherwise I won't garranty that it sill works.
And for python coders, I apologise in advance, I didn't know this langage at all so it's surely not optimized.
